A Foot in the Door

I recently had an online conversation with a man who accused me of racism. Now, this did not upset me, for reasons that will hopefully become clear, but what gave me pause was the trigger for this particular accusation: I pointed out that both he and I were white. To him, that was racist. My tone was not hostile. I was polite and respectful. But he could not tolerate being called white.
